Eska Lee SLAWSON [2] |
- Eska Lee Slawson Cole, 87, died on December 6, 2009. Eska Lee was born on July 30, 1922 in Iberia, Missouri, the daughter of the late James and Laura Slawson. She was the widow of the late William Quincy (Bill) Cole of Memphis, whom she married shortly after World War II in Webster Grove, Mo. She was predeceased by her four sisters, Edith Blanner, Catherine Thomas, Ruth Livingston, and Maude Duncan; and by her two brothers, Willard Slawson and Edward Slawson. She is survived by her nephews Lawrence Blanner, David Thomas, Ronnie Thomas, and her niece, Lee Lynn Keeth. She is also survived by her dear friend, Billie Jean Johnson, who cared for her in her final illness, and by a host of loving friends whom she touched and ministered to with prayer and inspiration. Eska Lee was a member of Lindenwood Christian Church, which she and Bill joined in 1953. At Lindenwood she was a member of Circle Two of the Christian Women's Fellowship and of the Christ Care Ministry Committee. She was also a member of the Harbor Town Bible Study Group. She was a member of the Azarean Circle of the Kings Daughters, an organization she supported for many years. Eska Lee had a keen interest in all aspects of gardening and, in particular, the cultivation of roses. She was a founding member and past President of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was for several years a docent for Dixon Gallery & Gardens. Eska Lee was also interested in gourmet cooking and cuisine. To learn more about this, she completed a course of study at a school of French cooking in Dieppe, France. Eska Lee was an authority on fine china and silverware, and she was always happy to share her expertise with her many friends. In this connection, she operated The China Mater, a distributor of antique and pre-owned china. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 11, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice. Memorial Park Funeral Home (Published in The Commercial Appeal on December 9, 2009)
