- Daniel was a member of the 64th Infantry Regiment, better known as the "First Battalion of Yates' Sharp Shooters," which was organized at Camp Butler in the month of December, 1861, by Lt Colonel D. E. Williams.It consisted of four companies, the last of which was mustered into the United States service, December 16th, 1861.Two additional companies were mustered into the service, December 31st, with Fred W. Matteson as Major.The January 10th, 1862, the command started for the seat of war, via Quincy.Here it was armed, moved in the expedition against Fort Pillow.Subsequently became a part of the command under Rosecrans; afterwards under Sherman.The leading engagements in which it took a part were siege of Corinth, Iuka, Dallas, Kenesaw Mountain, and Resace.Was paid and discharged at Chicago, IL, July 18th, 1865.
Daniel served in Muster Roll Company K; Daniel was listed as being from Wabash County, and was discharged October 6, 1864 because of disability.
Daniel married Lucy Crackel on September 14, 1854 in Edwards County, IL.
