Notes |
- Excerpt from "Families Directly Descended from all the Royal Families in Europe": Cerdic, founder of the West Saxon Kingdom, or Wessex, is described in ancient records as an "Ealdorman," who in the year 495 landed with his son Cynric in Hamptonshire, England, where he was at once attacked by the Britons. In the year 508, he defeated the Britons with great slaughter, and again in 519, aided by fresh arrivals of the Saxons, gained another decisive victory and took the title of King. His last work was the conquest of the Isle of Wight.
