Almerick Webster WILBUR [2] |
- Almerick W. Wilbur enlisted 16 Apr. 1861 as a private in Battery A, 1st Mich. Light Art. (known as the Loomis Battery). He served more than 4 yrs. under Generals McClellan, Buell, Crittendon and others. Then he was under Generals Mitchell and Thomas at Nashville, Murfreesboro, Stone River, Tullahoma, Chattanooga, Lookout Mt., MissionRidge, Chickamauqua and Atlanta. He was 5 times wounded and had 2 horses shot out from under him. He was promoted for gallantry through the ranks from Sarg.-Major to 2nd Lt., 1st Lt. and in 1864 to a Captain.
He engaged in the harness business after the war in Chicago and was living there during the Chicago fire in 1871. In 1876 he moved to Calif. by 1880 he had moved to Brockport, NY. He was with the Johnson harvester Co. in Rochester, NY as an officer. He also served as a pension councilor and processed over 1300 pensions for his clients. he was a member of the Masonic Order and the G.A.R. Post. [1]
