John WHITTINGHAM [1] |
- John Whittingham of Sutterton (Southerton) near Boston, Lincolnshire, England, who came to Ipswich, Mass., in 1637-8, and died there in 1648. His wife Martha (to whom he bequeathed his realty in England jointly with his eldest son John), Rev. William Hubbard of Ipswich, his father-in-law, and his brother Samuel Hough were named as executors. He was reputed to have been the son of Daniel, born Nov. 12, 1571, living at Kingsgate, Durham, England in 1690. Daniel was the son (?) of William Whittingham, Dean of Durham. (Some authorities contend that John was the son of Baruch Whittingham.) He was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Boston, a merchant and part owner of the ship Sarah. [1]
