Oct 1849 to Miss Caroline Clark, b. 09 Jul 1819 at Orwell, Addison, VT, d. 17 May 1855 at Champlain, Clinton, NY. The Dewey Genealogy and Family History, compiled by Louis Marinus Dewey, was published in Westfield, Mass. by Dewey Publishing Company in 1898 and contains the following data regarding Silas on Page 779-780, #6719: "He was a farmer at Champlain, N. Y., on the "old place;" was educated at the academy in Plattsburgh, N. Y.; was of medium eight, slender build, had light brown hair, sandy whiskers, blue eyes, and a fair, ruddy complexion. He experienced religion during the ministry of Rev. J. Corepland and united with the Presbyterian Congregational Church at Champlain, N. Y., in 1866; was faithful in duty, noble and generous to a fault, honored and beloved by all who knew him; age at death 74 years." Silas was also the 7th generation from the original Dewey settler, Thomas Dewey, who arrived from Sandwich, Kent, England, to Boston about 1630 and eventually settled in Windsor, Connecticut Colony.
