- Anthony Aucher, Knt., of Bishopsbourne and Otterden, Kent, Marshal of Calais, Governor of Guisnes, Master of the Jewel House of the Tower of London, son of James Aucher, Gent., of Otterden, Kent by Alice, daughter of Thomas Hill, of Eggarton, Kent. He was born about 1500, and was one of the agents of King Henry VIII in the suppression of the monasteries. They had four sons and one daughter. Sir Anthony Aucher, the military commander at the siege of Calais, died intestate of wounds on 9 Jan. 1558 two days after the surrender of Calais. [1]
