- Anthony Browne, Knt., K.B., K.G., of Battle Abbey and Cowdray Park, Sussex, Sherif of Surrey and Sussex, son and heir of Anthony Browne, K.g. by Alice daughter of John Gage, K.G. He was created Viscount Montagu on 2 Sep 1554. He was a zealous Roman Catholic, and was one of the fifteen executors of Queen Mary. He took an active part in repelling the Spanish Armade, and entertained Queen Elizabeth sumptuously at Cowdray for six days in August 1591 "Viscount Anthony Monntague, K.G." died testate at his manor house of West Horsley, Surrey, on 19 Oct 1592.
