Nathaniel HOYT [1] |
- Lived in Danbury, Bethel parish, till 1796, then removed to Winchester, Connecticut; d. about 1840. he seems to have been living in Locke, NY, in 1811; but other accounts say that he spent his last days with his eldest son in Winchester...
Land was laid out to him in Danbury in 1778. He was a farmer; but taught music and was leader of the choir in Bethel many years. Nathl. and wife Anna were members Bethel Church in 1790, and they and children bap. there from 1770 to '93. Ens. Nathl. Hoyt was mentioned on Beth church rec. in 1794. he was one of those young men who followed Whitefield from town to town to enjoy his preaching. he served 5 yrs. in the rev army, and was in the battle of White Plains. When Danbury was burnt, his wife with 5 small children fled to New Milford. He served under Washington and Putnam in NY and L.I., and in his later life was fond of relating incidents pertaining to the revolution and its heroes. [1]
