  • Name Erma AGAZZI  [2
    • Erma Agazzi Chuk
A long time resident of Joliet, Erma died after a brief illness at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, Monday, November 6, 2006. She was born in Numa, Iowa on January 2, 1914 to parents Mary (Canalle) and Chedian Agazzi.

Erma is survived by her sisters, Geneva Ridgeway, Ruth Sebben, and Louise Webster; numerous nieces and nephews; her family at the YMCA and the Ingalls Park Methodist Church; and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore Chuk; both of her parents; siblings, George Agazzi, Fred Agazzi, Madeline Goodwin, Robert Agazzi, and Jack Agazzi.

Erma graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1931 and completed her education at the Metropolitan Business College of Joliet. She worked for Richard Vance Investment Co. and Illinois Clay Products. In 1963, Erma became a small business owner when she purchased Electrolysis by Erma, which she operated until retirement.

The Joliet area has benefited greatly from Erma's involvement in numerous organizations and activities. She was active in the Richards Street Methodist Church, serving as a Board member and continued her work with the Ingalls Park Methodist Church. She also served as President of the Business and Professional Woman's Club, founded the Toastmistress Club and was involved with numerous community fundraising efforts.

Equal to her love of church and community is her participation in the YMCA. Joining in 1938, she was in the first group of women allowed membership and became the first woman to be elected to an executive post. Erma helped found the Women's Division which was instrumental in building a facility allowing women to attend the YMCA. She enjoyed creating and participating in programs that helped thousands of children in Joliet. She was also a founding member of the Y-Invest investment club for women to help educate members about finance which operated for 50 years. She was committed to advancing women in both business and community all of her life.

In 1967 Erma married the love of her life Ted Chuk and upon retirement traveled to five continents and became well known as an antiques dealer regionally. She has contributed greatly to community history through her many presentations and also donations to the Joliet Historical Museum becoming an expert on the Gerlach Barklow Calendar Company and Miss America Lois Delander of Joliet.

Erma will be greatly missed by her many family members and friends. Special thanks to her caregivers Ann and Carol at the Inn at Willow Falls and the Joliet Area Community Hospice.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 11, 2006 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home. Services will be held immediately following visitation at 3 pm. At Erma's request, inurnment will be at 10 am on Monday, November 13th at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Erma would love donations to the YMCA of Greater Joliet and the purchase of a membership at your local YMCA. Good night! FRED C. DAMES FUNERAL HOME
