- Samuel lived in Woodstock, where he was a farmer and teacher. he entered the Revolutionary army when quite young, as a drummer boy, and was present at the execution of Major Andre', the English officer arrested and executed as a spy. Samuel Chaffee was buried in Woodstock. His widow and his son-in-law, Joseph deans, were appointed administrators of his estate and the inventory was taken, November 12, 1813. The estate, amounting to $3,650.15, was divided among the heirs November 1, 1814. October 7 1823, Joseph Deans was appointed guardian of the minor children, Eliza and Ezra.
