  	Ezra Chaffe, Jr., was baptized in West Woodstock Congregational Church, October 5, 1777. He had a light complexion, blue eyes, and was five feet, nine and one-half inches in height. He was a farmer and from his sixth until his twenty-first year lived in Athens, Vt. In 1798 he moved to New York state, where he bought a tract of land n Smithfield, being one of its earliest settlers and most valued citizens. Late in life he bought a home in Peterboro. He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church, as were also most of his children and grandchildren. [1]
