  • Name Asa LEETE  [1, 2
    • He removed to Farmington, Conn., for a short time, and in 1767, with several other Conn. families, he emigrated to New Hampshire where he was one of the founders of the town and of the first church of Claremont. He took an active part in the affairs of both town and church; in the first book of town records is inscribed the list of his children and a note to the effect that he was the great-grandson of William Leete who was a Governor of Conn. Colony. He settled in the western part of the town near the church and had five sons and twenty-two grandsons who married and raised families. Asa Leete and his wife and forty of their descendants by name of Leete are buried in the old West Part Church yard. Many of his descendants still reside in Claremont but none by the name of Leete. His name is given in the records among those who furnished money for supplies and to pay the Continental Troops in the Revolutionary War. [1]
