- He bought land in Greenwich, CT from Jonathan Fiske 31 July 1747. He was taxed in the Southern Precinct, DC from 1756 to 1763 and in 1770 and 1771. In 1767 he leased a farm in Cortland Manor and Peter Verplank mentioned in his will that Ingersoll was tenant on farm #6 in the Manor. this farm was about 2,000 acres. he was a customer at the Merritt store on Quaker Hill in 1772. he owned a note of L19/14/3 and L2/15/2 interest on 1 May 1777 to Beverly Robinson, probably for rents when he was in South Precinct. Rob ert Gilbert Livingston, in his will dated 20 Aug. 1789, refers to the "farm which I bought of Michael Hopkins, where Josiah Ingersoll lived."
He took a lease in lot 18 of the Beekman Patent on a farm of 280 acres as early as 1774 when Livingston noted he paid wheat rents on a farm that had been leased by Jacob Miller. The rent book states: "Josiah Ingersoll bought this farm of said Miller for L250 and said Ingersoll sold it to Ezra Mow in 1777."..... [1]
