"EDWIN LOCKBURNER SHOTS HIMSELF WITH SHOTGUN"
Edwin Lockburner, 59, was found dead in a shed in the rear of his home on the Lafayette-Monroe Road, Sparta Township, yesterday afternoon with gunshot wounds in his heart. The body was discovered about 1;50 p.m. by Sam Mitchell, of Lake Grinnell, and Al Klein of Sunset Rest. Coroner, George H. McCloughan said it was a case of suicide and that Mr. Lockburner had not been dead long when the body was found.
Mr. Lockburner, who lived alone at the old homestead, was suffering from gangrene in his foot. The shot gun which he had used was found near the body.
Mr. Lockburner is survived by five sisters and two brothers. John D. Lockburner, of Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Mae Sargent, of Lafayette; Mrs. Carrie Lozaw, of Franklin; Mrs. A.J. Pullis, of Lafayette; Mrs. Ted Cannon(sic) of Passaic; Mrs. Walter Sisco, of Franklin and Frank Lockburner of Lafayette.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Luse & Luse Funeral Home in Newton.

"MAN FOUND DEAD; CALLED SUICIDE"
Edwin J. Lockburner, 59, of the Lafayette-Monroe Road, Sparta Township was found shot to death in a shed behind his home shortly after noon yesterday (Wednesday). Police Chief George Geffken, of Sparta Township and Coroner George McCloughan said the man killed himself with a 10-gauge shotgun which he held against his chest and discharged by means of a string and a stick attached to the trigger.
The body was found by Sam Mitchell of Lake Grinnell and Al Kline, of Sunset Inn, Route 6-A. Lockburner, who lives alone had been ill and the two men went to see him. When they could not find him in the house, they noticed that high grass in front of the shed was trampled. When they investigated they found the body and notified police. State Trooper Garnet Duff joined Chief Geffken in the investigation.
According to Coroner McCloughan, Lockburner has been a patient in the the Newton memorial Hospital several weeks ago, suffering from diabetes. When the body was found, McCloughan said the left leg was badly infected with gangrene. Chief Geffken estimated the man shot himself between 9 and 9:30 a.m. yesterday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm. from the Luse and Smith Home, with the Rev. Carl Luthman, pastor of the Federated Church of Lafayette, officiating. Burial will be in North Church cemetery. Masonic services will be held tomorrow (Friday) night. Mr. Lockburner was born on the farm on which he died. He was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Cahrs Lockburner, and was unmarried. He is survived by seven brothers and sister.
