- Elijah was in the Battle of Bennington during the Revolutionary War, and very likely served under Capt. William Sharp in Abbott's regiment, Vermont Militia. The army list of Leyden men who served during the Revolution includes that of Elijah Walworth. he drew a pension, and received his first payment June 15, 1831. The last payment was made to R.M.S. Pease, covering the period March 4th to Sept 4th 1846.
The U.S. Census of 1790, records Elijah as living on the Ethan Allen Highway--North and West Leyden, Mass.
Elijah was well known as a humorist and when he appeared at a social gathering the neighbors knew they were in for a lively evening. [1]
