  	John and Grace Westgate had eleven children - five daughters and six sons. the births of the first six children, born between 1757 and 1768, are recorded in the Tiverton town records. The next three children not documented in Tiverton town records - Mary, Joseph, and William - were born between 1773 and 1776, possibly in Connecticut after John and Grace moved their family there fro Tiverton, prior to their migration to Plainfield, "the winter before Burgoyne was taken." Since Briish General John Buroyne surrendered at Saratoga, New York, on 17 October 1777, the arrival of the Westgate family to Plainfield can be narrowed to the winter of 1776-1777. After settling in Plainfield, their youngest children Benjamin and Hannah were born there between 1779 and 1785. [1]
