    • The first Pathmaster of District 8 was GEORGE ROOT who settled in Chazy in 1800. He was an excellent fifer. His wife was Caroline, a daughter of Elisha Ransom. By 1829 he was living near Malone with his sons Hiram and Ransom Root. ELIJAH and SILAS ROOT were here in 1802, but nothing more is known of them. [1]
