- Excerpt from "A Merrill Memorial Vol 1": John Merrill lived on the old homestead of his father, near the mouth of Artichoke River. He was a farmer and boatman on the Merrimack River. He was one of the founders of the Episcopal Church in Newbury, and one of the wardens of the church in 1714. He made his will 3 Nov. 1749, and it was proved 3 May, 1756. He probable died in 1756.
