Notes	Joseph served in Franch and Indian war; was 1st Lieut. in 4th reg., 1755, to go against Crown Point. He was called Capt. in 1764; was Capt. in 7th Ct. Reg., 1775, and afterwards Col. during Rev. War. He was esteemed a brave soldier and an able officer. A tradition still current says that as he was marching his men along just at eve., he saw a fine flock of turkeys on a tree, and pointing to them, he said, "Boys, if you touch one of those OWLS, I'll have every one of you flogged." About midnight the Col. was invited out of his quarters to partake of a supper of "Owles."
