  • Name Nicholas HOWLAND  [1, 2, 3
    • He was a large real estate owner, and seems to have carried on a tannery as well as farming. His homestead was situated west of Apponegansett meetinghouse, on the opposite side of the road, and his real estate there extended from that of his brother Henry westward to what is now called the Chase road. This neighborhood was called Pascamansett, from the river that flowed through it. He owned Gooseberry Neck, at the mouth of Buzzard's Bay. He seems, like his brothers, to have been a successful business man, highly respected and trusted by the community. He held a number of town offices from 1702 to 1712. [1]
