- From "Philip Delano of the "fortune" 1621: John Hanks was a bloomer or ironworker, and on 27 Feb 1736/7 he hired three-fourths of a forge or iron mill in Duxbury and later leased ut fractions of his part.
John Hanks bought 40 acres of land in Duxbury on 25 Aug 1741, which was part of the homestead farm of David Alden. After his death Mary, his widow, sold 10 acres of this land July 1743 to Benjamin Hanks.
On 16 April 1792, John Hanks and Chloe Addinton, widdow, both of Duxbury,sold to Judah Delano, all their right in the "iron oar" in the Township of Middleborough, "being the whole right of our mother Mary Hanks late Mary Delano Daughter of Thomas Delano & which he gave her by Will....the whole of our Mother Mary Hanks or Simons Right in Middleborough..
