- Excerpt from "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register": The will of Amos Gates of Westminster, dated 20 March 1803, was filed for probate 6 Dec. 1804. He was a constable in 1777; moderator of town meeting the same year, and surveyor of highways in 1782. He appears to have been the Amos Gates who served under Capt. Israel Williams from 22 May 1755 to 27 June 1756. Service was aat the Wewtern frontier and with detachment in Colrain, Mass. He served under Capt. Silas Brown from 4 March to 2 Dec. 1760 in the campaign for the reduction of Canada. He was also a soldier in the American revolution.
