    • Excerpt from "Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Vol. III": "Mihill" Emerson was a witness in the Ipswich Quarterly Court in a Rowley case, Sept., 1651. His name, spelled both "Myghill" and "Michael", appears again in that court in July, 1657. He received land in Haverhill in the "fourth division," Feb., 1661; and his name appears in the Old NOrfolk Co. deeds as owning land in Hv. in 1659 and 1667, buying and selling real estate, 1672-1673 and later. In 1675 he ws chosen "to view and seal all leather," probaby the first one to hold that office in that town; and he continued to hold it till 1702.
