  • Name Seth EATON  [2, 3, 4
    • Marriage intentions were filed at Dartmouth, 3 March 1764 between Seth and Sarah Delano, daughter of Jethro Delano and his wife Elizabeth Pope, born at Dartmouth, 14 October 1741. There is no proof that the marriage took place (Delano en. 461, says she did not marry Seth and died unm.) Sarah was sister of Calvin Delano who married Mary Alden, No. 895, second cousin of Seth Alden; and sister to Bethia Delano.

In Seth's first marriage intentions (1764) he was "of Middleborough"; in the second (1768) he was "of Dartmouth." He resided at Dartmouth until at least 10 October 1774, when he bought land in Middleborough from Joseph Alden, and presumably he removed to Middleborough shortly after.

On 9 February 1775 Barnabas Eaton of Middleborough gave to his sons Seth and Nathan Eaton, husbandmen of Middleborough, all of his homestead farm except that given to his six daughters and other two sons (Plymouth Co LR, 70:175).

Seth was a private in Massachusetts troops in the Revolutionary War (MF, 9:58, 10:66: DAR Patriot Index). He served in Capt. Joshua White's company, Col. Ebenezer Sprout's regiment which marched 8 December 1775 with service of 5 ays on an alarm at Howland's Ferry, Rhode Island. He also served in the same company and regiment from his enlistment of 6 May 1778 to 9 May on an alarm at Dartmouth; the roll was dated at Middleborough. He also served in Capt. Joshua White's company, Col. Ebenezer White's regiment; he enlisted on 1 August 1780 and was discharged on 4 August; the company marched to Tiverton, Rhode Island, on an alarm; the roll was sworn to at Middleborough (MSSR, 5:283).

Seth Eaton of Middleborough, husbandman, on 9 February 1775 received land from his father Barnabas Eaton. On 25 July 1791 Seth and Nathan Eaton both of Middleborough, yeomen, "having received a Deed jointly and severly of Our Honour father Barnabas Eaton late of Middleborough," divided their land: Seth Eaton, r., was a witness (Plymouth Co LR, 70:175-76, 73:143).

The 1790 census for Middleborough lists Seth Eaton with two males over age 16 and one female (M637-9, p. 358). The 1880 listing for Seth Eaton in Middleborough is too young (oldest male age 26-45, presumably his son); in 1810 the only listing is for Seth Eaton, Jr. In 1820, the family of Seth Eaton, Jr., included two males over age 45, one of which may be his father (M33-50, p.335).
