  	Funeral Services for Virginia Elizabeth Bowles Thurston (78) of Jacksonville, FL will be held 2:00PM Wednesday November 12, 2003 in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Jacksonville, FL. Virginia was born January 6, 1925 in Roanoke, Virginia to Sally Fannie Purdue and Luther Charles Bowles. Virginia left this life on November 8, 2003 to be with the Lord and to join her mother, father and youngest son, Gary, as well as other family members in heaven. She had 10 brothers and sisters: Lucy, Mary and Ruth were older, Luther, Jr., Sallie, Wayne (deceased), James and Gloria Jean were younger, Calvin and Rachel passed in their infancy. In 1944, Virginia married Thomas Terrell Thurston on New Years Eve. She became a Navy wife and supported her husband through World War II and the Korean War. Their four children: Thomas Terrell (Maggie) Thurston, Jr., Sandra Lynne (Jack) Banning, Kenneth Loren (Denise) Thurston and Gary Ernest Thurston (deceased) were born between 1945 and 1951. During her life as a Navy wife, she lived in Virginia, California, Rhode Island and Florida. They retired from the Navy and moved to Florida in 1962. Virginia loved the restaurant business and managed the Navy Exchange Restaurant at NAS Jacksonville for a number of years, retiring at the age of 55 with over 20 years of service. She has 10 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren. In addition to family she leaves those she loved at the Life Care Center at Wells Crossing which she called home since July 2002. Her warm smile, tender love, big hugs and quick wit will be missed by all. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 68PM at the funeral home.
